Actress Arlene Francis and Husband Sued

Jan. 11, 1962 - Actress Arlene Francis (pictured), her husband, Martin Gabel, and the Ritz Towers Hotel were sued today for $500,000 by a woman whose husband was killed when a dumbbell dropped from the Gabel suite and struck him on the head last June. The suit was filed in New York State Supreme Court by Mrs. Catherine Rodecker of Detroit, who was with her husband, Alvin, when the dumbbell struck him as they walked along Park Avenue at 57th Street. Mr. Rodecker was killed instantly. The police said that the dumbbell had been used to prop a screen in the eighth-floor Gabel suite and had been accidentally dislodged by a maid.
