May 22, 1963 - Lamar Hunt (third row left), owner of the American Football League champion Dallas Texans, moved his club to Kansas City today, admitting defeat in the three-year dollar-war with the Dallas Cowboys of the rival NFL. After 3 years of losses at the gate, estimated at $1.25 million, Hunt said he was convinced that 2 professional teams could not prosper in Dallas. Several months ago, Hunt said that if Kansas City would purchase 25,000 season’s tickets, he would move the club there. The original deadline found only 13,025 tickets sold, but Hunt made the move anyway. Jack Steadman, general manager of the Texans, said plans for a headquarters building and practice field in Swope Park continued through the ticket drive.
