AFL’s Dallas Texans Moving to Kansas City, Mo.

Mar. 28, 1963 - Lamar Hunt, owner of the Dallas Texans, said today he would sign a seven-year lease tomorrow for use of Kansas City’s Municipal Stadium as a home field for his American Football League champions. (Pictured below, Texans kicker Tommy Brooker is carried off the field after December’s AFL championship victory.) The lease is contingent upon the advance sale of 25,000 season tickets for 1963. Hunt promised in February he would transfer the Texans to Kansas City if the city fulfilled certain requirements. The signed lease will be presented tomorrow to the City Council for final approval. The Council has given tentative approval to specifications, including increasing the seating capacity at city expense.
