Mar. 15, 1963 - The New York Titans of the American Football League were sold by Harry Wismer (pictured right in 1960 with Sammy Baugh and Ramon Armstrong) today to the Gotham Football Club, Inc., for $1 million. The action, which had been urged by creditors of the pro football team, was announced at a hearing before U.S. Bankruptcy Referee John E. Joyce in Federal Court in New York. Identified as the principals of the Gotham Football Club, new owner of the Titans, were David (Sonny) Werblin, an official of Music Corporation of America; Donald C. Lilles, president of Bowie race track; Philip N. Iselin; Leon Hess, and Townsend B. Martin.
