Mar. 30, 1963 - Bo Belinsky, the Los Angeles Angels’ playboy pitcher of no-hit fame, won the pool-shooting championship of Palm Springs, Calif. just before midnight last night, and today was fined by manager Bill Rigney when he reported two hours later for pre-game practice. Bo’s buddy, 21-year-old Dean Chance, the winningest rookie pitcher in the majors last year, arrived at the ballpark with the tardy cue champion and also drew a fine. Rigney refused to divulge the amount. “They were fined, period,” said the unsmiling manager. “No, I never fined any Angel player in spring training before. They have both worked hard this spring and pitched well.” Belinsky captured the pool-shooting crown by defeating Jack Baron in a well-played match at the exclusive Key Club in Palm Springs. Among the spectators during the two-hour match were Bo’s latest girlfriend, actress Mamie Van Doren.
