Angels Score Seventh Straight Exhibition Win

Mar. 21, 1963 - The Los Angeles Angels today scored their seventh straight win in Cactus League competition by beating the San Francisco Giants, 5-3. Ex-Yankee Bob Turley, whose earned-run average for 13 innings this spring is 1.38, pitched 6 impressive innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 walk, and 2 runs, and striking out 2 men. The losing pitcher was Jack Fisher (pictured center with Al Stanek and Billy Pierce), who gave up 11 hits for 5 runs, walked 2, and struck out 4. Batting stars for the Angels were Albie Pearson, batting .357 for the spring, who went 3 for 3 and had a walk, and Ken Hunt, batting .423, who was two for two. Suspense developed in the Giants’ last turn at bat when, with the tying run at first, Willie Mays took a called third strike on a 3-and-2 pitch by Dan Osinski.
