May 27, 1963 - On sale today in U.S. record stores is “From Me to You,” the latest single from the British rock ’n’ roll group The Beatles. The B-side of the Vee-Jay Records release is “Thank You Girl.” Beatles John Lennon (left) and Paul McCartney (right) began writing “From Me to You” while on a bus heading to Shrewsbury, England as part of the group’s tour with Helen Shapiro. The title was inspired by the name of the letters section of the “New Musical Express,” which they had been reading: “From You to Us.” Lennon plays harmonica on the song, which was recorded at EMI Studios March 5.
