Bob Hope to Host Oscar Ceremonies Again April 9

Jan. 3, 1962 - The winners of the 34th annual Oscar competition will be announced on April 9. For the second consecutive year, the elaborate ceremonies that accompany these awards and the gold-plated statuette will be held in the civic auditorium at Santa Monica, Calif. Bob Hope will once more be master of ceremonies. The academy has appealed to its members this year to refrain from electioneering practices that are in bad taste. In last year’s campaign, there were many complaints that some candidates for Oscars were spending so much money on advertising and publicity that the merit of the contenders was being overshadowed by high-pressure salesmanship.
