Brando Enjoys Rare Double Exposure

Apr. 12, 1963 - Marlon Brando vs. Marlon Brando — the actor has a rare distinction in Hollywood these days. Brando (pictured with Hugh Downs) is the only major star who currently has two films playing first runs on Hollywood Boulevard: “Mutiny on the Bounty” and “The Ugly American.” Natalie Wood nearly had that distinction, but “West Side Story” closed just prior to the opening of “Gypsy” last November. Yvette Mimieux also missed by days when “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm” completed its engagement before “Diamond Head” opened. It appears that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton will be the next stars to have two first-run features on the Boulevard with “Cleopatra” due to open this summer and “The V.I.P.s,” slated for fall release.
