Braves Stop Phillies on Tommie Aaron’s 9th-Inning Grand Slam

Aug. 4, 1962 - A grand slam by Tommie Aaron in the bottom of the ninth powered the Milwaukee Braves to a 7-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies and a sweep of their doubleheader today. Joe Adcock’s 3-run homer in the first inning of the first game had led the Braves to a 6-2 win over the Phillies. Aaron’s first major league grand slam came after Jack Baldschun had filled the bases with three consecutive walks after two were out. The Braves had tied the second game in the eighth on Adcock’s two-run single. The victory went to Claude Raymond, the third Milwaukee pitcher. It was his fourth win of the season.
