Cars: 1963 Chevrolet

Aug. 22, 1962 - The new Chevrolets were shown today at General Motors’ proving grounds in Milford, Mich. In styling, the Chevrolet division is moving away from heavy sparkling ornamentation. However, it is sticking to another industry trend — higher horsepower. In an explanation of the increased power, Simon E. Knudsen, general manager of Chevrolet, said, “Let’s not kid anybody — performance sells cars.” Styling of the widely diverse Chevrolet division cars — the rear-engine compact Corvair, the middle-size family-type Chevy II, and the standard-size Chevrolets — follows the general theme of simplicity of line. The sporty Corvair and the Chevy II are virtually unchanged.
