Cars: Ford’s 1963 Thunderbird

Aug. 20, 1962 - Everything came up Thunderbird today as the Ford Motor Company staged a preview in Dearborn, Mich., of its varied Ford division lines. The compact Falcon, the intermediate-sized Fairlane, and the big Ford Galaxie reflected the styling theme of the luxury-priced T-Bird with its distinctive tapering slim roof. Basic styling of the 1963 models is virtually unchanged from the 1962 offerings. Ford has also added several station wagons, hardtops, sports coupés, and convertibles to its lines and will have 46 models in 1963 compared with 33 now. Fifteen of the models will have bucket seats. However, the new Falcon convertible, the lowest-priced soft-top in the line, will have beach-type seats.
