Aug. 9, 1962 - Archie Moore and undefeated Cassius Clay signed today to meet in Los Angeles in a 12-round heavyweight fight on Oct. 23. The co-promoters, Cal Eaton and George Parnassus, said the bout would be held in the Los Angeles Coliseum or Dodger Stadium. Moore, of San Diego, was guaranteed $75,000 or 35% of the gate. The 20-year-old Clay, from Louisville, the winner of 15 fights, will get $40,000 or 25%. The promoters said they had offers for a closed-circuit television showing of the match. The winner would be a leading candidate to meet the winner of the heavyweight title match between Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston.#boxing #1960s #boxingnews #boxinghistory #OTD #muhammadali
