Color Comes to ABC-TV

Sept. 22, 1962 - Color will make its debut over ABC at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow on a program called “The Jetsons,” a new animated cartoon series to be presented each Sunday. The network’s “Sunday Night Movie” at 8 p.m. tomorrow (“The Big Country,” starring Gregory Peck) also will be in color. All color films on “Sunday Night Movie” will be televised in color by ABC. “The Flintstones,” another animated cartoon, will be presented in color each Friday at 8:30 p.m. “Beany and Cecil” will be televised in color on Saturdays at 7 p.m. An ABC spokesman said it was not known how many affiliates would relay the shows in color. They would have to make their own arrangements, involving added expense, for the necessary technical facilities to handle color, he said. NBC will carry the great majority of the color shows. CBS will not have any regular color programming.
