June 15, 1963 - Dennis Weaver, who plays Chester on CBS’s “Gunsmoke,” will be the star of “Kentucky Jones,” a pilot show for an NBC series for the 1964-65 season. It is the story of a widowed veterinarian and a Chinese boy. Mr. Weaver portrays Kentucky Jones, the veterinarian who once trained horses. According to NBC, the Chinese character, who will be played by Ricky Der, is named Dwight Eisenhower Wong. In the story, Mr. Jones’s wife had started the process for the couple to adopt and raise an orphaned Chinese boy, but when she died suddenly, Kentucky had tried to stop the adoption process. He was too late, however, and the boy became his adopted son.
