Sept. 4, 1962 - Daring baserunning by Willie Davis and John Roseboro set the tempo today for a 5-4 victory by the Dodgers over the Giants in the second game of their 4-game series. The victory increased the Dodgers’ lead to three-and-a-half games over the Giants with only two contests remaining between them this season. In the first inning, Willie Davis scored from first on a single. This achievement so startled the Giants that three runs were recorded before they recovered their poise. Tommy Davis, who drove Willie home, took second on the throw to the plate and advanced to third on an error. A double by Frank Howard (pictured), followed by Ron Fairly’s single, accounted for the other two runs. In the fourth inning, after Lee Walls had singled, Roseboro tripled him home and thrilled the Los Angeles crowd of 51,567 by stealing home, barely eluding the tag of the catcher, Tom Haller.
