Dodgers Top Pirates, 7-3, Snap 5-Game Skid

Aug. 16, 1962 - The pitching of Stan Williams and Ron Perranoski (second from left) and the hitting of Doug Camilli sparked the league-leading Dodgers to a 7-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates today, snapping Los Angeles’ 5-game losing streak. The triumph increased the Dodgers’ hold on first place to two-and-a-half games over the Giants, who were shut out by the Cubs. Except for a Pirate three-run uprising in the first inning, Williams was in command until the eighth, when he was relieved by Perranoski after yielding a walk and a single with one out. Perranoski retired the next two batters and held the Pirates scoreless in the ninth. Camilli drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly, a single, and a bases-empty homer in the eighth.
