Aug. 14, 1962 - The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said today that efforts would be made next month to desegregate junior and senior high schools in Albany, Ga. “I have recommended that there be concentrated efforts at all levels of the schools,” he said. He said it was not certain whether elementary schools would be included. Dr. King said Negro children would try to enroll in the white schools, which open Sept. 4. If the pupils are rejected, he said, lawsuits will be filed.
