Dr. King Arrives in New York

Sept. 19, 1962 - Dr. Martin Luther King arrived in New York City today to address five church rallies on the fight for civil rights. Dr. King told a news conference at the Sheraton-Atlantic Hotel that the recent burnings of four Negro churches in Georgia were “shameful acts” of persons “willing to use any method” to try to continue segregation. He said that he would report to Negro church gatherings in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Westchester on recent developments in Albany, Georgia. He said he planned to return there soon.
