Apr. 2, 1962 - Actress Elizabeth Taylor and singer Eddie Fisher will soon end their three-year marriage in divorce, it was announced in New York today. A statement issued by an associate of lawyer Louis Nizer noted only that “Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher have mutually agreed to part. Divorce proceedings will be instituted soon.” The spokesman declined all questions on the statement except to say that it had been approved by both parties. Miss Taylor is in Rome, playing the title role in the film “Cleopatra.” There have been rumors for weeks that her marriage to Mr. Fisher, her fourth husband, would end because of a romance with her leading man, the British actor Richard Burton. The Fishers married in Las Vegas, Nev., on May 12, 1959. They have one adopted child in addition to three children by Miss Taylor’s previous marriages.
