Apr. 22, 1963 - Movie queen Elizabeth Taylor said in an interview published today she expects some people to have a “nasty opinion” of her because of her romance with actor Richard Burton. “I suppose they rather regard me as a scarlet woman,” she said. “I guess I seem so scarlet that I’m almost purple. But why get a heart attack over what people think?” Miss Taylor, who is separated from her husband Eddie Fisher, and Burton, whose wife recently filed for separation, were interviewed by Look magazine in London, where they are working on the film “The V.I.P.s” after completing the multi-million-dollar production of “Cleopatra.” “Elizabeth and I wouldn’t have been ready for all this 10 years ago,” Burton said. “We met then and carefully avoided each other. Now, we find we share the same sense of comedy and the ridiculous. That’s why we love each other.” Miss Taylor said her male secretary keeps most of the “scorching” press clippings, particularly from American papers, away from her because “he loves me too much to let them hurt me.” “I’m a human being, and I do make mistakes like all human beings,” she said. “It’s very hard to admit that you’ve done wrong. If your mistakes hurt other people, in the long run, you will have to pay for them.”
