Ex-Nazi Mass Murderer Hangs Himself in Prison

Aug. 21, 1962 - Hermann Höfle (pictured last year), facing trial in Vienna on charges of participating in the mass slaughter of Jews in World War II, hanged himself in his prison cell today. The 51-year-old former Nazi had been named in the Adolf Eichmann trial in Israel and was arrested Jan. 31 in Salzburg. Höfle played a major role in deportations of Jews in Mielec, Lublin, Rzeszow, Warsaw, and Bialystok to death camps. He also personally escorted Eichmann to the Belzec and Treblinka camps.#nazi #shoah #holocaust #suicide
