Federal Grand Jury Charges Five in Strip-Tease Conspiracy

Oct. 27, 1961 - A Federal grand jury charged the police chief of Newport, Ky., and five others today with having falsely conspired to arrest George Ratterman (pictured), former football star, in a room with a striptease dancer. Mr. Ratterman had charged that he was drugged in Cincinnati and placed in a room above a Newport nightclub with Juanita Hodges on May 9 in order to discredit him as a reform candidate for Campbell County Sheriff. The indictments were announced in Washington by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. He has been keenly interested in the vice and gambling conditions that have given Newport and Campbell County a nationwide reputation as a “sin city.” Mr. Ratterman, 35, father of 8, is running on the reform Democratic ticket for sheriff in Campbell County.
