First Lady Celebrates 34th Birthday in Hyannis

July 28, 1963 - President Kennedy and most of the numerous members of his family celebrated Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy’s 34th birthday today in Hyannis Port, Mass., with cruising, swimming, and a day in the sun. Both of the President’s brothers, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and their families were on hand for the occasion. Children almost too numerous to count were running all over the Kennedy family compound, the President’s leased house on Squaw Island, and the two White House yachts — the Honey Fitz and the Patrick J. — that were there for the occasion. At one point in the active Kennedy day, Caroline, the President’s 5-year-old daughter, leaped over the side of the Honey Fitz while her father was swimming in the waters of Nantucket Sound. Mrs. Kennedy has been spending the summer at Hyannis Port, awaiting the birth of her third child in late August.
