French Drinkers Switch from Champagne to Scotch

Jan. 20, 1962 - A change has been taking place in French drinking habits. Sales of Scotch whisky have increased almost sixfold in the last four years. Three or four years ago, the standard beverage in a Parisian nightclub was champagne. The customer was expected to buy a half bottle for each member of his party. Now there is not a champagne bottle in sight in many nightclubs. Scotch is served almost exclusively, at an average cost of $1.60 a drink.
