Oct. 14, 1963 - Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower (pictured in 1942) marked his 73rd birthday today, mingling work with festivities. He rose early and arrived at his office on the Gettysburg College campus a little after 8 a.m. as he does on any weekday morning. Shortly before noon, he and Mrs. Eisenhower drove to the home of their son, John, for the customary birthday celebration with their four grandchildren. The day ended with dinner at the home of Brig. Gen. Arthur S. Nevins, who was General Eisenhower’s planning officer for the Normandy invasion in 1944. Over the weekend, colleagues of his eight years in the White House and other friends feted General Eisenhower at nearby Hershey. They gave him a vase for his collection of Steuben glass. Tomorrow night, he will be in Washington for a Republican fundraising dinner geared to the birthday.
