Giants Return to New York and Beat Yankees in Exhibition Game at Stadium

July 24, 1961 - The San Francisco Giants, New York's prodigal sons, proved today that you can go home again - and in style. To the glee of thousands of frustrated Giants fans who have kept a light burning for their former heroes, the Giants beat the Yankees, 4-1, in an exhibition game at the Stadium. For both Giant and Yankee lovers alike, the main attraction was the two best centerfielders in the game today - Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. The outcome provided Giant romanticists with perhaps their happiest moments since the one-time New Yorkers followed Horace Greeley's advice in 1957 and headed west. For one day at least, the beloved Giants had come home.
