Giants Top Braves as Sanford Earns 13th Straight Win

Aug. 30, 1962 - Jack Sanford, given solid relief support, scored his 13th straight victory today as the Giants beat Milwaukee, 3-2, in San Francisco. Willie Mays hit his 40th home run of the year, and Orlando Cepeda and Jim Davenport added 1 each for the Giants. Frank Bolling and the losing pitcher, Warren Spahn, hit consecutive homers for the Braves. Sanford, scoring his 19th triumph against 6 losses, equaled his personal high in victories, achieved with Philadelphia as a rookie in 1957. Today it took Bob Bolin, Billy O’Dell, Stu Miller, Mike McCormick, and Don Larsen to preserve Sanford’s victory string.#MLB #baseball #OTD #1960s #giants #braves
