Grandma Moses, Nearing 101, Still Young at Heart

Sept. 1, 1961 - Anna Mary Robertson Moses, the American folk artist better known as Grandma Moses, approaches her 101st birthday still active mentally and full of plans, although she has been in a nursing home for the last few weeks. "As soon as I get back home," she says, "I'll start painting again." During the last year, Grandma Moses's ankles have grown weak, making it difficult for her to walk. Twenty-five paintings have been produced by Grandma Moses since she passed her 100th birthday. They portray the same nostalgic scenes of American farm life and festivities she has been depicting since she took up painting at the age of 78.
