Dec. 28, 1963 - A television set owner who turns on his set and finds Guy Lombardo on the screen knows instantly that an old year is ending and a new year beginning. This has become the pattern in recent years. And sure enough, “New Year’s Eve with Guy Lombardo” will be presented by the CBS network Tuesday night. Mr. Lombardo’s band, the Royal Canadians, have played many spots in their long career, but they have never worked on a bandstand in Grand Central Terminal, where this year’s show will ring in 1964. The one-hour show begins at 11:15 p.m. “Swinging to ’64,” another New Year’s Eve musical show, will begin over Channel 9 in New York at 11:30 p.m. Morty Gunty will be the host. Performers on that show will include Chubby Checker, Joey Dee, Johnny Tyllotson, George Hamilton, Timi Yuro, Tommy Roe, and Dee Dee Sharp. NBC said the “Tonight” show would carry inserts from Times Square Tuesday night.
