Aug. 17, 1962 - Harvey Haddix (pictured), staked to a 9-0 lead, pitched the Pirates to a 9-1 victory over the Phillies today and ended the Phils’ winning streak at six games. Haddix, gaining his eighth victory against five losses, had a shutout going until the ninth, when Don Demeter blasted a homer high over the left-field scoreboard. The Pirates capitalized on the wildness of the Phils’ starter, Jack Hamilton, in the third and scored six runs. Hamilton walked three, one intentionally, and also made a wild pitch while the Pirates were tagging him for four singles.
