May 16, 1963 - Mrs. Joan Kennedy (pictured in October 1961), wife of Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy, youngest brother of the President, has had a miscarriage, the Senator’s office said today. The loss of the baby, which had been expected in late August or early September, occurred Tuesday, a spokesman said. Mrs. Kennedy, who is 26 years old, was reported resting comfortably at her Georgetown home. The former Joan Bennett of Bronxville, N.Y. has two children, Kara (left), 3, and Edward M. Jr. (center), almost 2. She is one of three Kennedy wives who were expecting a baby. Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, the First Lady, and Mrs. Ethel Kennedy, wife of the Attorney General, are both pregnant.
