July 13, 1963 - Integration is a “government solution” that won’t solve the nation’s race problem, it was asserted today by Malcolm X, the Black Muslim minister, at an outdoor Harlem meeting at 114th Street and Lenox Avenue. About 1,000 persons were present. Integration had only been “offered,” Mr. X said, “to move men’s minds away from the true solution, which God gave Elijah Muhammad.” The Black Muslim “solution” is the separation of the races, with land being turned over to Negroes for their own development as a nation. The meeting was to welcome Akbar Muhammad, a son of Elijah Muhammad, on his return from two years in Cairo. Recently, Akbar attended the meeting of heads of African states at Addis Ababa.
