Aug. 6, 1961 - Loud praises of Mickey Mantle reverberated through the Stadium today as the celebrated slugger slammed three home runs that helped the Yanks sweep a doubleheader from the Twins. The scores were 7-6 and 3-2. Mantle hit his 41st and 42nd homers off Pedro Ramos in the opener. His 43rd came in the second inning of the second game off Al Schroll. Mantle is now two up on his teammate, Roger Maris, in the home run race. He moved 19 games ahead of Babe Ruth's home run pace of 1927, the year the Babe belted a record total of 60.
