July 17, 1963 - Four absent-minded teenagers, who left a huge bass drum on a subway train last Thursday after cheering the New York Mets to their 12th straight loss, were reunited with their property today at Transit Authority headquarters on Jay Street in Brooklyn. Peter Turer, 16, and Leo Najman, 16, both of Brooklyn and co-owners of the instrument, identified the drum, which had “LET’S GO METS” in huge letters on the side. They explained that they had been returning from the game and had left the drum on the subway platform — each thinking the other had it. Asked to explain the co-ownership, young Peter said, “That’s easy — one day, I carry it and Leo drums. Next day, vice-versa.”
