July 21, 1962 - Another frustrating afternoon for the Mets today led to the virtually inevitable — a defeat for the New Yorkers. Casey Stengel’s players outhit the Reds, 11 to 7, and they hit 2 home runs to just 1 for the Reds. Still, they lost their sixth game in a row, 5-3. Added frustration came in the form of an error by Marv Throneberry (pictured) that led to victory for the Reds. Following Throneberry’s blunder, Vada Pinson slammed a two-run home run over the center-field fence that lifted the Reds from a 3-2 deficit to a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The Mets have now dropped five games in five meetings with the Reds.
