Apr. 2, 1963 - It is not true that the New York Mets, who today scored 5 runs in the eighth inning and beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-6, will immediately begin accepting ticket orders for the 1963 World Series. It is true, however, that there was joy throughout Casey Stengel’s camp following today’s fine comeback before 2,033 at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. This one gave the Mets their first title, the city championship of St. Petersburg, where the Mets and Cardinals do their spring training. After a pinch-single by Ron Hunt had driven over the winning run, Tracy Stallard, who no longer flinches when the name Roger Maris is mentioned, mopped up the Cards in the ninth. The right-hander set down Dick Groat, Bill White, and Duke Carmel in order. Meanwhile, film clips of Duke Snider, obtained by the Mets yesterday from the Dodgers, have been inserted in the “Meet the Mets” program that will be shown Thursday night over WOR-TV, Channel 9. Uniform No. 11, formerly worn by Gene Woodling, will be assigned to the Duke.
