Mets Will Try To Snap 17-Game Skid

June 7, 1962 - The New York Mets, a club Manager Casey Stengel (pictured with Roger Craig) today referred to as “not built for long winning streaks,” will try to snap its 17-game losing streak tomorrow at the start of a 3-day, 5-game series with the Chicago Cubs. Jay Hook and Bob Miller will be the starting pitchers in tomorrow’s doubleheader. Bob Moorhead will take the mound in Saturday’s single game. Ray Daviault and Willard Hunter, neither of whom has ever started a major league contest, will get their first chances during Sunday’s doubleheader.
