Monroe Funeral Set for Wednesday, DiMaggio in Charge

Aug. 6, 1962 - Funeral services for Marilyn Monroe were set today for Wednesday afternoon. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. at the Westwood Village Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Joe DiMaggio, who flew to Los Angeles Sunday upon learning of the actress’s death, has been active in making the funeral arrangements. The former Yankee baseball star was married to Miss Monroe for 9 months before she divorced him in 1954. Miss Monroe’s will, drawn up in New York City last year, made no mention of funeral arrangements. Those invited to the private services and mausoleum interment will include only such persons as drama figures Lee and Paula Strasberg; Miss Monroe’s half-sister, Mrs. Berniece Miracle, and her publicist, Miss Pat Newcomb. “There will be present just persons close to Marilyn — no movie stars or anything like that,” said a spokesman.
