Montgomery Clift Brings Lawsuit against Universal

July 1, 1963 - New York Supreme Court Justice Abraham N. Geller today ordered a trial of a suit for $131,000 brought by screen actor Montgomery Clift against Universal Pictures. At the same time, the Court directed that the company’s counterclaim against Mr. Clift for $686,383 also be tried. Mr. Clift contends the $131,000 is due him for his starring role in the film “Freud.” The producers say the actor “failed to memorize his lines,” causing production delays. Mr. Clift (pictured right with the film’s director, John Huston) challenged this contention, saying the script was being constantly revised.
