Aug. 22, 1961 - Alice Faye (pictured with José Ferrer), musical comedy star of the 1930s and '40s, will return to the screen after an absence of 16 years. She has been signed to portray the mother of Pat Boone and Pamela Tiffin in the 20th Century-Fox remake of "State Fair." It is the role played by Louise Dresser in the 1932 version and by Fay Bainter in the 1945 version. Miss Faye had left her career as a film actress in the 1940s and became known for her role on the radio show "The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show," which ran on NBC from 1948 to 1954. Phil Harris is Miss Faye's husband.
