Mar. 21, 1963 - The motion picture version of the successful stage musical, “Bye Bye Birdie,” will begin an exclusive engagement on Friday, April 5 at the Hollywood Paramount Theater. Starring Janet Leigh (right), Dick Van Dyke (left), Ann-Margret, Maureen Stapleton, and Ed Sullivan as himself, the Columbia color production was filmed in Panavision. In the story, a rock ’n’ roll singer travels to a small Ohio town to make his "farewell" television performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted into the Army.
