Nov. 1, 1963 - A story of 300 Cheyenne warriors pursued by thousands of U.S. troops in 1878 is being filmed in color by Warner Brothers in the rugged Monument Valley area of Arizona and Utah. The director is John Ford, and the cast includes Richard Widmark (left), Carroll Baker (right), Karl Malden, Sal Mineo, Dolores del Rio, Ricardo Montalban, Arthur Kennedy, James Stewart, and Edward G. Robinson. “Cheyenne Autumn,” based on a historical novel by Mari Sandoz, tells of the Indians’ 1,500-mile flight, with women and children, from an Oklahoma Territory reservation to their native Yellowstone country.
