Movies: “Good Neighbor Sam”

July 22, 1964 - Opening today is “Good Neighbor Sam,” a screwball comedy co-written and directed by David Swift, based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Jack Finney. It stars Jack Lemmon, Michael Connors, Romy Schneider, Edward Andrews, Dorothy Provine, and Edward G. Robinson.

Sam Bissell (Lemmon), a family man, poses as his divorced neighbor’s husband to help her claim a substantial inheritance. The ruse spills over into his career in advertising, as his recent promotion relies on his wholesome and moral appearance.
