Movies: “I’d Rather Be Rich”

Aug. 26, 1964 - Opening today is “I’d Rather Be Rich,” a romantic comedy film with musical aspects directed by Jack Smith, produced by Ross Hunter, and starring Sandra Dee (left). The film, a remake of “It Started with Eve” (1941), focuses on a dying man (Maurice Chevalier) who wishes to meet his granddaughter Cynthia’s fiancé (Andy Williams, right), but he is unavailable, so Cynthia persuades another man (Robert Goulet) to substitute for him. Then the grandfather recovers.
