Nov. 7, 1963 - Opening today is “It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” a comedy produced and directed by Stanley Kramer with a story and screenplay by William Rose and Tania Rose. The film, starring Spencer Tracy with an all-star cast of comedians, is about the madcap pursuit of $350,000 in stolen cash by a diverse and colorful group of strangers. The principal cast features Edie Adams, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, Phil Silvers, and Jonathan Winters. This is the first comedy Mr. Kramer has directed.
