Aug. 4, 1961 - MGM will produce an adaptation of the stage musical "Jumbo," which was originally produced by Billy Rose in 1935. It will be one of MGM's most ambitious musical ventures to date, with a large cast headed so far by Doris Day, Stephen Boyd, Jimmy Durante, and Martha Raye. The color production will be loaded with circus specialty acts - human and animal - and will retain all the original Rodgers and Hart songs from the stage production.
