Nov. 5, 1962 - Marlon Brando and Tarita, the Tahitian girl who plays his romantic interest in “Mutiny on the Bounty,” have arrived in New York City to attend the Thursday-night premiere of the MGM film at Loew’s State Theatre. Also attending will be Mrs. Nancy Hall Rutgers, daughter of James Norman Hall, co-author of the original novel, and Aaron Rosenberg, producer of the picture. The film tells a fictionalized story of the real-life mutiny led by Fletcher Christian (Brando) against William Bligh (Trevor Howard), captain of HMS Bounty, in 1789. It is the second American film to be based on the novel. The first was produced in 1935, also by MGM. The new version was the first motion picture filmed in the Ultra Panavision 70 widescreen process.
