Nov. 5, 1963 - James Stewart and Sandra Dee are receiving a real “Texas style” welcome this week as they attend a series of premieres of their picture, “Take Her, She’s Mine,” in the Lone Star State. (Pictured below are Stewart and Dee with members of the Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Comittee at San Antonio International Airport.) In Abilene, 10,000 children were dismissed from school to spell out a greeting with cards in the local football stadium as the Stewart-Dee plane flew overhead. Bands from Hardin-Simmons College and nearby Dyess Air Force Base escorted them into town. In other Texas cities, the welcome followed much the same pattern with the grandest of all coming in Houston, where the film stars were guests for luncheon with the astronauts at NASA headquarters. “Take Her, She’s Mine” opens on Nov. 20. In the story, the attempts of a father (Stewart) to protect his college-age daughter (Dee) from trouble backfire as he finds himself in the middle of scandal after scandal.
