Sept. 1, 1963 - Julie Andrews has been signed for the title role in “The Americanization of Emily,” which William Wyler will direct in London starting September 23. William Holden and Melvyn Douglas will also be in the Paddy Chayevsky adaptation of the William Bradford Huie novel. This is the second film role for the British-born musical actress, who recently completed “Mary Poppins” for Walt Disney. Her noted “My Fair Lady” stage role is being played on the screen by Audrey Hepburn. “The Americanization of Emily” deals with an American Naval Officer whose talent for living the good life in wartime is challenged when he falls in love and is sent on a dangerous mission.
